Years ago when I was only dating my husband, I planned what I thought to be a romantic date at the park for our 1 year anniversary of dating. I called him after he got out of work and told him to meet me at the park by his apartment. Before making the call, however, I spent all afternoon in my Mom’s kitchen making a bit Italian meal, as both of us loved Italian food! I made homemade bread sticks, Italian based chicken noodle soup, and stuffed shells for our dinner, I packed that and a very nice bottle of wine into a beautiful picnic basket and took off to the park. Once at the park, I found a lovely large rock right next to the small river that ran through the park that offered some privacy, but yet allowed us to take in the beauty of the park! I put down a blanket, sprinkled some roses and baby’s breath around the blanket, got out a cd player and placed in our favorite cd and left it playing lightly against the babbling river and went to hide. When my now husband pulled up I actually saw tears well up in his eyes, and trust me it takes a lot to make this man cry! It was such a sweet and wonderful evening; in fact, we still celebrate the anniversary of our first date every year as well as our wedding anniversary, and every year we go to the same park. We have started taking our kids to that very same park and telling them the story of many years ago when Mommy was being a romantic and planned a wonderful anniversary dinner at the park for Daddy! We’ve also taken a picture each year at the park with the whole set up laid out, picnic basket and all, and ever year we add it to our memories book that we started all those years ago as a dating couple!
