Fun Date Activities: A Day in the City

Erin might have an advantage planning a date in her city, since she and her boyfriend live in Manhattan – but don’t despair! Any city offers a variety of unique attractions all its own – many of which are free. So get creative and make a day of touring places that make your city unique!

My most creative date was planned by both me and my boyfriend, though it had originally been his idea. It involved spending the day in Manhattan. We started out by walking around Central Park early in the morning on a clear and sunny day. We talked as we walked. We sat on benches and watched the runners, bikers and joggers. We took in the fresh air. We walked up a hill and sat by the trees, enjoying the great weather. We ate hotdogs from a nearby vendor and walked around the lake and strolled through Strawberry Fields. We also hung around Bethesda Fountain for a while. After having spent the morning and early afternoon in the park, we left to continue with our day in Manhattan. We walked by the David Letterman building and went into Ranch One to have a light lunch. We continued walking towards downtown, enjoying the beauty and diversity of the city. We walked for miles. Sometimes we’d go into stores and sometimes we would visit an atrium, sit down, and just enjoy the environment and each other’s company. We walked all the way to Union Square, which is part of the downtown area in Manhattan. The famous East Village is located there and it’s an interesting place. We looked in the shops and browsed through the items sold by outdoor vendors. We watched the skateboarders practice around a small plaza nearby. There are many different small restaurants located within a short distance and we picked a small Japanese eatery and had our dinner there. My advice for someone wanting to plan a similar date would be to pick out an area in their city or town that allows for flexibility in their activities. Any activity can be special because it’s being shared with someone that you care about.
