Great Date Ideas: Go Fun, Not Fancy

Veronica proves that a great date doesn’t have to be costly or flashy. Sometimes, the best dates are casual and fun – and centering a date around games or fun activities take all the pressure off!

When I first met my future husband at college, I had no idea that our second date would be the greatest I’ve ever been on! He planned it all himself; first of all, he brought me some wonderful cookies that he’d made himself. To start off, we went up to this spot in the main building on campus; it’s a balcony-type spot with tables and chairs that overlooks a large, wide-open area where students usually sit to eat or chat. There, we played some fun card games that he owns: “Munchkin” and “But Before I Kill You, Mr. Bond.” Both games are really fun! It provided us a great opportunity to joke around while getting to know one another better. After that, we went to see this comedy group that performs on campus, called “Laugh Out Loud.” It was another excellent chance to laugh and have fun together, while learning more about one another. The group’s whole show is based around improv comedy, and they call people up from the audience to volunteer. Being a real ham, myself, I LOVED getting up on stage and participating in the show! My husband is a bit shier, but still got a kick out of watching me goof around up there. It also gave us some fun inside jokes and memories to chuckle at afterwards. In my opinion, a date doesn’t have to be pricey or complicated to be really fun. On the contrary, very often the best dates AREN’T like that at all. Giving the two of you an opportunity to laugh, talk, have fun, and get to know one another better creates the best date(s) ever. What’s worked best for me has been when a guy takes me to do something where we are ABLE to have a good conversation without the pressure of the conversation being the ONLY thing going on. Playing card or board games, for example, makes it so that you can talk about yourselves, each other, or just the game itself. Also, playing those kinds of games doesn’t cost very much at all. Introducing your date to the types of games/humor/pastimes you enjoy can help you quickly learn what you two have in common, and whether he/she is the right one for you or not.
