Ideas for Fun Dates: Host a Movie Fest

Does your significant other have a predilection for really bad science fiction or horror movies? Host your own film festival! Renting a bunch of cheesy movies and picking them apart makes for some great entertainment, is a great shift from the generic “dinner and a movie” date. Read about Kay’s fun Mystery Science Theater 3000 date with her boyfriend:

Back when my now husband and I were dating we used to go on a lot of group dates with our friends. I think one of the reasons we started dating was because we were the only single ones there and got sick of watching the other couples make out. We love Mystery Science Theatre 3000 and one day we all decided we were going to rent a bunch of horrible movies and watch them all together. None of my other boyfriends from my past would ever have been willing do something like this. It was definitely a very interesting way to spend a date. These “Feces Fests” turned into something we did quite often. The group of people that we got together all had a great sense of humor and I spent the whole time laughing. We watched movies such as “Troll 2” and “I Downloaded a Ghost.” Troll 2 was not even about trolls, it was about goblins and whoever heard of downloading a ghost? These horrible movies would have been painful to watch without the humor of our friends. I think the most memorable movie of all was “Manos, the Hands of Fate.” MST3K did this movie too, but we decided to watch it ourselves. I honestly believe that I can never watch this movie again, it was that bad. Not only was it a little creepy, there was no depth and the movie made no sense. I enjoyed being able to spend these evenings with my boyfriend and I have some great memories of these first dates. I wouldn’t just take anyone on a date to a Feces Fest. It was nice to take a break from the everyday movie and dinner and do something unusual. Of course we would go on conventional dates too, but it was fun to shake things up a bit.
